Update (Oct 2016): Price for the Xiao Long Bao or Guo Tie is now S$6.
The husband and I were checking out the Chinatown Complex Food Centre for new eats and we stumbled upon this Chinese stall that sells xiao long bao (XLB), dumplings and a decent selection of noodles.
Their XLBs are all handmade on the spot so freshness is definitely guaranteed.
For S$5.50, you get 2 bamboo baskets of 5 XLBs each. These XLBs are possibly the cheapest you can find in Singapore!
I never like XLB with thick skin that can be rubbery sometimes. But look at this – the skin is perfectly thin with a plump, meaty filling. One bite into the XLB, you would get an explosion of steaming hot clear broth which wasn’t laden with (too much) MSG or seasoning. I couldn’t stop popping these delicious mini buns into my mouth – could easily eat another 10 myself, lol.
Their pork & chives potstickers a.k.a. guo tie are also priced at S$5.50 for 10 pieces. I loved that brown paper-thin crust that had formed in the pan while the potstickers were pan-fried; it just gave a really nice crisp. Normally I don’t really fancy chives that much because of their strong flavour but they tasted quite subtle in these potstickers as the sweetness of the pork filling stood out more.
If you’re a XLB and guo tie fan, you just have to check this place out. Highly recommended! 🙂
