Woodfire Burgers: Savour the Hype at Malaysia’s Top Burger Spot!

On our way back to the hotel after visiting Desaru Mini Zoo, we decided to stop by Woodfire Burgers for lunch. We got there right at 2:30 pm, only to find out they were closed for a break and wouldn’t take orders until 4:30 pm. The place was packed when we arrived. It was disappointing because the lunch break closure wasn’t mentioned anywhere. The sign outside still said they were open from 12:00 noon to 10:00 pm. So, we ended up driving to Family Mart for a quick bite instead.

Woodfire Burgers

My husband went back to the restaurant at 4:30 pm to get burgers for our dinner, only to see people already eating there. Seriously, what’s up with this 2:30 pm-4:30 pm closure?

Menu

Woodfire Burgers

Anyway, here’s what hubby brought back:

Biscoff Milkshake RM16.90

I couldn’t help but laugh when hubby brought back this milkshake. Earlier, I told him about the milkshakes at Woodfire Burgers, and he said he wasn’t interested because they were too sweet. But he got one anyway! It turned out to be really good, with a strong Biscoff flavour and not too sweet. I still suggest sharing one between two people so it doesn’t get too much.

Coney Fries RM13.90

What a delicious-looking mess, haha. It tasted great because it was so saucy, but honestly, it got a bit too much since the sauce was pretty sweet. Next time, I’ll just go for plain curly fries.

Stuffed Cheese Beef RM19.90

Didn’t look anything like the picture on the menu. Couldn’t spot any cheese at all. Even after taking several bites, the beef patty didn’t ooze any cheese either. So, where’s the stuffed cheese? Clearly missed out on that. But taste-wise, the burger was still delicious. I appreciated that the bun wasn’t too thick and was fluffy light. Plus, it had the same sauce as the Coney Fries, which was a nice touch.

Mushroom Beef Burger RM22.90

I originally wanted the Brisket Burger, but they didn’t have it, so I went for the Mushroom Beef Burger instead. It had this super crispy hash brown in the middle that added a great crunch to every bite. I also loved the sliced mushrooms; they gave it a nice earthy flavor. However, the beef patty was a bit dry.

Smoked Beef Burger RM23.90

There was heaps of bacon and caramelised onions. The flavour was good, but the buns were pretty thick, so every bite felt really dry and bready.

Conclusion

Overall, it wasn’t too shabby for a local burger spot like this. The burgers were definitely indulgent with all the fancy toppings they used. Not sure if they make their own buns, but if they do, then they need to work on consistency because some were too thick and dense while others were perfectly soft and fluffy. They’re not the best burgers we’ve had—our gold standard is still Manhattn’s Burgers in Belgium—but they’re definitely better than fast food joints. If you’re craving burgers while you’re here, it’s worth giving them a shot.
