Here chicky chicky…a new Chicken is in town! And its first outlet has just opened at Tiong Bahru Plaza.
Founded in Tai Chung, Taiwan since 1973, Ji Guang Delicious Fried Chicken has been a household name among the locals and also a big hit with tourists. If you’ve ever tried J&G Fried Chicken, you’d probably reminisce the taste of their special marinate blend of spices that has so much oomph in it.

Ji Guang Fried Chicken had a 1-for-1 promotion over the weekend so we bought the Crispy Chicken Nuggets to try. And our verdict? Two thumbs up! The bite-size chicken breast cubes were deep fried on the spot (in fresh looking oil) to a perfect crisp and even golden brown colour. I thought the inside would taste dry being chicken breast but I was wrong. It was tender, moist and juicy. In fact, the person frying the chicken had nailed it so well that I couldn’t even feel much grease on it. (I just hate fried stuffs that ooze oil!) The pepper powder that they sprinkle over the chicken had a lovely tinge of chinese herbs flavour to it. I couldn’t quite tell what ingredients were in it. It must be a unique secret recipe.
The chicken nuggets are available in Small and Large portions. And the person preparing your order would first weigh the nuggets on a digital scale before packing into paper bags. He was so precise with the measurement that he’d remove a big piece of chicken to swap with a smaller piece just so the weight was correct. And he did it with every order despite the queue was long! Such a ‘meticulous’ nit-picker!
Ji Guang Fried Chicken has knocked out its competitors like Shihlin’s XXL Crispy Chicken and Hot Star Large Fried Chicken and climbed to (my) top spot. It’s now my Number One choice for a fried chicken snack! Please open more outlets soon so I don’t have to travel all the way to Tiong Bahru just to eat you!
