The husband and I headed to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital just to grab soup for dinner from our favourite stall at the food court only to realise it wasn’t in operation anymore. So sad. Going to a hospital not for medical reasons or to visit anyone but to have dinner. That’s exactly one of the few weird things we’d do, lol.
After combing through the entire Yishun Central in search of a similarly healthy meal, we came across this yong tau foo shop under a HDB block next to the bus interchange.
Probably because it was a Sunday evening so there were limited ingredients left but good enough for us as what we’d normally order were all available anyway.
The price for the set used to be $2.50 but had now increased to $3.00 which was still very cheap compared to other yong tau foo stalls especially those in air-conditioned food courts.
And here was what I had – a humble looking bowl of assorted yong tau foo with bee hoon soup. What I really liked from the selections were the sze chuan preserved vegetable and bamboo shoots that were crunchy and really lifted the soup with a richer flavour. The soup itself wasn’t too bad either since it was nearing the end of the day and most likely the balance soup would contain all the essence from the earlier blanching of ingredients which made it quite flavoursome and sweet. The sweet sauce and chilli sauce were pretty decent too.
A comforting and satisfying dinner that was extremely wallet friendly. What’s not to like? I’d be back to try the laksa broth.
