Salted Egg Tofu and Chicken Recipe

Hands up if you have tried my Salted Egg Chicken Recipe. ๐Ÿ˜€ It has remained my top number 1 recipe post since I shared it years ago. And it just means how much you peeps love your salted egg as always. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Today, I’m sharing a Salted Egg Tofu and Chicken Recipe that’s inspired by the Steamed Tofu and Chicken with Salted Egg Sauce Recipe by Knorr. I came across the recipe in the small booklet that was provided when I got a packet of the Knorr Golden Salted Egg Powder and thought it would be interesting to give it a try.

Salted Egg Powder Is More Economical

You can now buy Knorr Golden Salted Egg Powder from major supermarkets here in Singapore. FairPrice is selling at $9.90 for each 270g packet. Previously the powder only came in bulk sizes as they were made for the F&B industry so it’s good that they now come in smaller packets for home cooking purpose and are so readily available.

Apparently, each 270g packet yields 23 salted egg yolks which makes this product slightly cheaper than buying real salted eggs that cost approx. $0.50 each (i.e. $11.50 for 23 eggs).

Salted Egg Powder Has Longer Shelf Life

It’s my first time cooking with salted egg powder as I’ve only used real salted egg yolks for all my salted egg dishes previously. But the very last time that I cooked with salted eggs, I was really annoyed because out of the 8 eggs I bought, 4-5 of them were rotten (black in colour and had foul smell) and I had to halt my cooking midway just to head out to get more salted eggs. O_o

So an advantage of using this salted egg powder is that you can easily store the remaining powder in the fridge for future use and you don’t have to worry about buying rotten eggs like me, haha.

Add More Salted Egg Powder For A More Intense Flavour

For this Salted Egg Tofu and Chicken dish, you can choose to serve the tofu in whole but I prefer to serve mine ‘mapo tofu’ style. This way, it’s just easier to scoop it up with the salted egg chicken sauce and put over rice to enjoy.

Perhaps I didn’t add enough salted egg powder so the salted egg flavour wasn’t that intense. If you like a heavier flavour, try adding extra powder.

Enjoy! ๐Ÿ™‚
