Hubby and I came here for a quick bite before heading over to The Mind Cafe @ Funan Centre. We ordered a laksa, nasi lemak and a home-made water chestnut drink to share. The nasi lemak came with an otah, chicken wing, ikan billis (fried anchovies) with peanuts, omelette, cucumber and sambal chilli. I thought the chilli was quite good and went extremely well with the coconut-fragrance rice. The only downside would be that the rice was rather soggy. The wings here were also left out too long so it wasn’t as hot and crispy though it was peak lunch time. I remembered eating the same set at its Shaw Towers outlet and it was much much better.
The laksa was surprisingly good though and definitely more ‘lemak’ than the nasi lemak. The gravy was flavourful and we added a little more chilli paste to give it more kick. This wasn’t as oily as some laksas elsewhere where you could see a layer of chilli oil floating on top. The tau pok (fried beancurd) was sinfully soaked with gravy and exploded in our mouths with each bite.
Wash down your meal with a cool refreshing cup of home-brewed water chestnut drink that wasn’t too sweet and had all the goodness and flavours of natural water chestnuts. Yummy.
