Have you ever watched a K-drama on Channel U and saw Pizza Maru featured in it? Pizza Maru, a Korean-based pizza chain, is famous for its mouthwatering pizzas with unique Korean-style toppings and flavours, not to mention their incredibly delicious fried chicken.
After returning from an amazing trip to Bali, my hubby and I were eager to satisfy our cravings, so we made a beeline for Pizza Maru in Jewel Changi Airport to grab a late lunch. I was bursting with excitement to finally try their renowned Chicago Pizza and see if it lived up to all the rave reviews.
Location
Pizza Maru at Jewel Changi Airport is located just outside the Pokemon store. It’s an open dining space surrounded by shops.
Black Rice and Green Tea Dough
One thing that truly sets Pizza Maru apart is their dedication to crafting healthy pizzas. Yes, you heard that right—healthy pizzas! It might sound like an oxymoron, but with the right ingredients and preparation, it’s absolutely possible. The secret lies in Pizza Maru’s unique selling point—their special dough. It’s what gives their pizzas that distinct edge and sets them apart from other pizza chains.
Prepare to be amazed by Pizza Maru’s black rice dough. It not only adds a touch of wholesome goodness but also brings a unique flavour profile to their pizzas. But wait, there’s more! Pizza Maru also offers a green tea dough made with green tea, chlorella, and an assortment of 12 different natural grains. It’s a delightful twist that adds a refreshing and healthful element to your pizza experience.

Pizza Maru’s menu offers more than just pizza and fried chicken. They also have Korean fusion pasta, toppokki, risotto, salads, desserts, and fancy mocktails served in jugs. Their menu is perfect for sharing with friends or family.

We had to wait for about 30 minutes for our food to be served. Here’s what we ordered:
Chicago Pizza | Regular 10″ | $32.90
Just look at that cheese pull! It’s hard to resist, especially if you love cheese. I was pleased to see that our pizza arrived hot and fresh at our table.
Pizza Maru’s signature Chicago Pizza is a deep-dish pizza with a crust made from black rice dough. It’s generously topped with 3 different types of cheese, beef pepperoni, sliced tomatoes, and Maru tomato sauce.
My first bite of the Chicago Pizza was heavenly. The crust was crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The combination of the toppings with the cheese and sauce was perfect. Normally I don’t eat the cornicione or rim of the pizza, but this time it was so delicious that I couldn’t resist. The amount of cheese used in the middle of the pizza was insane. This was definitely the cheesiest pizza I’ve ever had. To add a bit of sweetness to the sharp cheese, you can even pair the pizza with the side of jam provided.
This pizza was filling, and just two slices already felt like a substantial meal.
Honey Butter Coat | 6pcs | $19.90
The Honey Butter Fried Chicken is a wonderful combination of sweet and salty flavours. It’s like having the best of both worlds in one dish. Every piece of chicken was nicely coated with honey butter powder, giving it a delicious flavour. The chicken was perfectly cooked, with a crispy and crunchy outside and a tender and juicy inside.
Each portion of chicken consists of 5 large chicken wings, which is perfect for me since I always prefer the chicken wing parts.
The fried chicken came with a side of pickled radish, which added a refreshing crunch to the dish. The radish also served as a great palate cleanser, as fried food can get quite sickly after a while.
Onion Tartar | 6pcs | $19.90
We also ordered the Onion Tartar Fried Chicken, which was served with lots of fresh onion strips and a generous portion of tartar sauce. My husband enjoyed this dish the most because he likes eating raw onions, and the tartar sauce added a creamy and tangy flavour to the chicken. I also liked the crunch of the onions, which went well with the chicken.
Dabao your leftovers if you can’t finish
We couldn’t finish all the food, so we asked the staff to pack up the leftovers. The staff went above and beyond by including extra jam when she heard me saying that the pizza tasted great with it. It was a very thoughtful gesture.
The next day, I reheated the pizza in the oven for five minutes and it still tasted delicious, with the cheese being gooey and stretchy. What’s even more amazing is that the chicken wings remained crispy even when eaten cold, without being reheated!
Conclusion
Overall, I had a great experience at Pizza Maru. The Chicago Pizza was a standout dish, and both types of fried chicken were delicious. The combination of pizza and fried chicken is perfect, and I would highly recommend trying it out at Pizza Maru. If you’re in the mood for some Korean-style pizza and fried chicken, Pizza Maru is the place to be!
