My team gave me a lunch treat to celebrate my birthday over dim sum at Peach Garden @ Thomson Plaza. I remembered having dim sum here many many years back but it didn’t leave a deep impression in me but I thought it’d be a good idea to check it out again and see if the food had improved over the years.
For steamed dim sum, we had the braised chicken feet, ha kau, crab roe siew mai, xiao long bao, pork ribs and prawn siew mai. The ingredients were fresh; prawns were crunchy; ribs and chicken feet were tender.
For fried items, we had the char siew soh, beancurd skin roll, yam paste roll, mango prawn roll, prawn dumpling and carrot cake. The carrot cake was quite bland. The crust of the char siew soh was too thick and overwhelming compared to its fillings. The ingredients were fresh and crunchy but were just a bit too greasy.
Finally, some egg tarts and salted fish fried rice to end the meal. The funny thing was, the fried rice turned out to be the winner of the entire meal. A simple looking dish but the rice was well flavoured and the portion of salted fish was generous and gave it a real salty fishy kick. The egg tarts weren’t fantastic as compared to the ones from Yum Cha.
Overall, it was a decent meal with the fried rice being my favourite dish. Perhaps I’d return next time and order dishes instead of dim sum. And since this was a treat by my colleagues, I didn’t know how much the bill turned out to be but the pricing was very much the same as other similar dim sum restaurants.
Lastly, kudos to the staff who served us. Outside food wasn’t allowed but they were kind (and flexible) enough to allow one of my colleagues to unveil two surprise slices of birthday cakes for me and even provided us with utensils to enjoy the cakes.
Thank you ladies for lunch and the great company too =)
