Pacific Kopi 民洋茶室 @ Taman Sutera Utama, Skudai

Even though Pacific Kopi opened a new branch in JB old town, we decided to hit up their original place at Taman Sutera Utama, close to Sutera Mall, since we were planning to head to Paradigm Mall afterward.

Pacific Kopi 民洋茶室

We got there around 10.00am on a weekday and it wasn’t too busy, so grabbing a table was easy. Just flip through the physical menu, mark your choices on the order chit, and give it to any staff. They’ll bring your food right to your table.

Menu Variety

Like most Nanyang kopitiams, they’ve got a huge variety of food on their menu—everything from rice dishes and noodles to traditional kaya toast with half-boiled eggs and small bites. You’re bound to find something you like here.

Pacific Kopi is probably best known for their 3-in-1 Fried Rice Cake, which gets a lot of hype on social media.

They’ve also got this new Purple Potato Series, where they swap out the yam in the fried rice cake for purple sweet potato instead.

What We Ordered

Pacific Kopi C (Ice) RM5.80

Thick coffee aroma. Went for ‘kosong’ (no sugar). Perfect mix.

Pacific Kopi 民洋茶室

Fried Sweet Potato Rice Cake Balls (10pcs) RM6.90

Five purple (purple sweet potato) and five orange (orange sweet potato) balls. Unlike the light and hollow Taiwanese ones, these have sweet potato fillings inside.

The orange ones were better—sweeter and moister. The purple ones were less sweet and a bit grainy with more fibre strands.

3-in-1 Purple Fried Rice Cake (4pcs) RM7.90

Pre-sliced into halves, making it easy to pick up with chopsticks. Thankfully, they’re small-sized pieces, so they’re not overwhelming when shared between two people. They’re like the ones from pisang goreng stalls but way better—no oily mess when you bite into them. Crispy and crunchy on the outside. Now I see why every table had a plate of these. So addictive and delicious—a must-try!

Pacific Char Lou Shu Fen RM9.90

At first glance, this dish looked pretty ordinary, but after the first bite, the lovely wok hei flavour hit. It’s like the bee tai mak version of char kway teow—perfectly balanced, not too sweet. It had chicken and sliced fish cake in it. Price for this dish is very reasonable too.

Pacific Briyani Rice with Lamb RM20.90

What an indulgent breakfast dish, but no regrets. The lamb was cut into small, tender cubes with no gamey taste. The curry sauce was perfectly balanced—not too oily or spicy. Rice was also nicely cooked, though a bit milder in spice compared to Indian briyani stalls. I prefer traditional papadom, as these crackers were a bit hard, but the pickles were refreshing.

Kaya Butter White Bread RM3.90

It’s just normal kaya butter bread—nice kaya, but nothing amazing.

We ordered it because it was raining heavily and we wanted to hang out a bit longer.

Pacific Sour Plum Lime Mint Soda RM7.90

This drink was a mix of sour plum, yellow lemon, green lemon, mint leaves, and soda water. Super refreshing on a hot day and great with greasy food. The ingredients are pretty simple, so it inspired me to try making it at home, haha.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the food here was pretty awesome, with decent portion sizes. Out of all the Nanyang kopitiams we’ve tried, Pacific Kopi probably stands out the most. The environment is clean and comfortable, and the service staff are polite, attentive, and quick to react. One of them saw me taking pictures of the dishes and immediately came over to wipe away the pool of water on the table from the condensation of my iced drink.
