An upgraded version of my Cinnamon Sugar Breadsticks because I added ground almonds this time. This is just incredibly quick and easy to make and it’s just another excellent way to use up day old bread. As usual I don’t like to go crazy with butter or sugar in my recipes but if you like more buttery toasts or a sweeter topping, feel free to increase the amounts accordingly.
Nutty Breadsticks Recipe
Ingredients (serves 2)
4 slices day-old wholemeal bread
1 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
1 tbsp light brown sugar
25g almonds, pulverised till fine
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 160 deg C with fan. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
2. Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread. Cut each slice into 3 rectangles and transfer onto baking tray.
3. Mix sugar, almond and cinnamon in a bowl. Using a tea spoon, scoop the sugar topping and spread all over the top of each bread rectangle. Use the back of the spoon to gently press the topping down.
4. Bake for 12-14 minutes till golden brown and crispy.
Nutty, sweet, crunchy with a lovely taste of cinnamon. Best served with tea! 😉
