Every time the husband and I walked past Humble Beginnings at JB City Square, we kept saying to ourselves that we would come back for their mille crepes next time but it never did happen. So at our last JB exploration trip when we came back to JB Sentral from AEON Bukit Indah, we immediately headed to the cafe for a pre-dinner dessert break before we changed our minds again.
The cafe specialised in mille crepes that came in various flavours like Swiss Chocolate, Cookies ‘n’ Cream, Strawberry Heaven, Pandan Kaya, Peanut Butter Blueberry, Nutella Banana, Charcoal and more. They also offered a selection of coffees and teas for those of you who need your daily cuppa.
We ordered the Raspberry Cheese Yogurt and Royal Milk Tea mille crepes which cost RM10.90 (before GST & service charge) per slice.
The Royal Milk Tea mille crepe had a light tea fragrance and wasn’t overly sweet or cloying. It was made up of about 18 layers (+-) of crepes and were quite firm and dense in texture. Hubby said it tasted just like bubble milk tea in a crepe form and I supposed that was meant as a compliment cos’ he loved his bubble tea.
The Raspberry Cheese Yogurt mille crepe was quite balanced in flavour. We could taste the tang of the yogurt and the fragrance of the cream cheese in every layer. Each mouthful of the mille crepe was a refreshing note as if we were eating a healthy and guilt-free cake. There was raspberry jam in between some layers and it would have been flawless if the jam didn’t have seeds in it.
Overall, these might not be the best tasting mille crepes I’ve had (still prefer Lady M’s cos’ theirs are lighter and fluffier) but they were still worthwhile treats with reasonable prices and a decent selection of flavours. Give it a try if you’re at JB City Square! 🙂
