It’s funny how Hiap Joo isn’t just another bakery—it’s practically a JB landmark! You’ll even see tourists snapping pics with it in the background. Honestly, it feels like you haven’t really been to JB unless you’ve tried their banana cakes. I mentioned in my last blog post that they’re hands down the best banana cakes around—there’s nothing like them, not even in Singapore.
A Quick Morning Stop at Hiap Joo
Before heading back to Singapore, I swung by Hiap Joo early to grab some banana cakes. It was 9:30 a.m. on a Thursday, and surprisingly, no queue! I even caught a fresh delivery of cakes, and they had coffee and butter cakes available, even though the schedule says they’re only supposed to be out on Tuesday mornings. Usually, I only manage to snag the banana cakes, so this time I grabbed a box of coffee and a box of banana cakes.
Banana Cake (10pcs) RM12
Just as good as ever—quality is always on point. The cake is light and spongy, with that nostalgic, old-school taste like the banana cakes from the 80s. Not too sweet, not too oily—just right.
Coffee Cake (10pcs) RM15
Tried their coffee cake for the first time, and wow! As soon as I opened the box, I got hit with this amazing coffee aroma. The flavour is strong and bold, and honestly, I was surprised to find it even better than the banana cake. My family agrees—the coffee cake takes the crown this time!
Don’t Miss Out on the Coffee Cake!
To all you banana cake fans, don’t just stick to the banana cake next time—grab the coffee one too. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
