Of all the microwave breads I’ve made to date, this flaxseed bread is probably my favourite. It’s really, really simple to make. If you just buy a large pack of flaxseed meal (I use Bob’s Red Mill Organic Golden Flaxseed Meal) and store it away in your pantry, you can easily make this flaxseed bread anytime.
Reduce bread waste at home
Another plus point is that I can minimise food waste as I only make enough depending on how much bread I need. I think it’s pretty common that people just throw away store-bought bread slices when they can’t finish the whole loaf by the expiry date. With this recipe, it’s almost impossible to waste.
Flaxseed Health Benefits
There are so many advantages to add flaxseeds to your diet. Flaxseeds are loaded with lots of protein, fibre, omega-3 fatty acides and other important vitamins and minerals like thiamine and copper. Some studies have also shown that flaxseeds may prevent certain types of cancer, lower cholesterol, improve heart health, stabilise blood sugar level and help with weight management too. The reason why this flaxseed bread recipe is so incredibly easy and quick to make is because you only need to add 5 ingredients into a ramekin or microwave-safe bowl, give it a good stir and pop into the microwave for 3 minutes. And ta-da! You get instant bread which you can eat immediately!
However, do note that not all microwaves have the same temperament so if it’s the first time you’re trying out a microwave bread recipe, I’d suggest you start off with 1 minute and then gradually increase by 30 seconds if need be. You don’t want to end up with cardboard bread, haha.
Best paired with a savoury filling
Slice the flaxseed bread into half and use like how you would with burger bun or sandwich bread. I find this nutty-flavoured bread go very well with savoury fillings like ham & cheese, tuna mayo, chicken mayo, and the like.
For those on a low-carb or keto diet, you will be happy to know this flaxseed bread has only 2 net carbs and 313 calories!
