Whenever I’m at Tiong Bahru, I’d never leave without buying some kueh kueh from my favourite old-school bakery, Galicier. If you’ve been following my blog, you’d probably know I’m one of Galicier’s big-time fans, lol. Their Chinese New Year cookies, nonya kuehs, cakes and pastries – I totally heart them all.
Recently, I went again and got two new items to try out.
Butterfly cupcakes made up of soft and moist sponge filled with a rich and smooth butter cream, topped with a cherry and dusted with icing sugar. This was an utterly delicious cupcake! I’ve never been a big fan of butter cream but this was really so good because the cream wasn’t overly greasy yet it was flavoursome without making me feel sickly of it. For the first time, I didn’t have to scrape off excess butter cream off a pastry and could finish the whole thing on my own. The sponge cake itself was also dynamite, so buttery and moist! Overall, it was a really delightful old-school treat!
The kueh dadar and ondeh ondeh were still as good too!
This pineapple tart tasted very much like their CNY pineapple tarts except that this was bigger in size and had more of that pineapple filling in it. The crust was buttery and slightly crumbly (like that of egg tarts). The filling was subtly sweetened and crunchy. Though the tart looked pretty standard, it was definitely worth its calories.
If I can now assemble a tiered set of goodies for tea, the butterfly cupcakes, pineapple tarts and nonya kuehs will definitely be on my menu. Yum.
