On our 4th day in Penang, we decided to eat nasi kandar again for dinner. Simply hooked onto nasi kandar. Not sure why though, haha. Since there is no better place to eat nasi kandar than Penang, of course we have to eat to our heart’s content! This time round, we headed to one of the locals’ favourite go-to restaurants – Deen Maju Nasi Kandar on Jalan Gurdwara.
The queue was super long when we got there. Almost extended to the end of the lane on the side. Waited for about 20 minutes or so in total.
Good selection of side dishes and curries. We just pointed to whatever we wanted.
One of the men would just scribble the prices of our food on a piece of paper and hand it to us. We would then take our plates and look for an available table. Plenty of seating space inside.
Compared to what we paid for the nasi kandar at Hameediyah Restaurant, the nasi kandar here was reasonably cheap. Definitely a plus point.
For mine, I had some kind of braised chicken. Tasted good. Very flavoursome. Meat wasn’t dry at all. Got okra and a fried egg as well. Two types of gravies were doused over my rice. A delicious mess!
Not exactly sure how they did the gravy combination as Hubby’s one had 4 or 5 types of different gravies/sauces. Maybe it all depended on what dishes were picked.
The squid came with roe inside and was really tender. Pickled radish was tangy and appetising too.
And when you’re done with the meal, bring the slip of paper to the cashier and make payment on your way out.
Final Thoughts
The nasi kandar here was cheap and good. There wasn’t anything we didn’t like. Staff here seemed to be more helpful and friendly too. Though there would always be a long queue, I thought it moved relatively fast so it wasn’t too bad. We will be back again!
