The char siew pork used for this recipe is super easy to make as it doesn’t involve any roasting of meat. Simply marinate thinly sliced pork (those pre-packed for shabu shabu will be ideal) and stir fry them in the pan which will only take a few minutes to cook.
Of course, you can use store-bought char siew sauce but I do find it too sweet for my liking. Instead of adding sugar, I chose to use honey just to give that subtle sweetness of the char siew flavour while keeping the sauce coating balanced. Enjoy!
Stir Fried Char Siew Don Recipe
Ingredients (serves 2)
200g shabu shabu pork or thinly sliced pork tenderloin
1 tsp olive oil
1 tbsp toasted white sesame seeds
steamed rice, broccoli & carrots as sides
Marinade for the pork:
1/2 tbsp light soy sauce
1/2 tbsp honey
1 tbsp hoisin sauce
1/2 tbsp rice vinegar
Instructions
1. Marinate the pork and chill in fridge for at least 30 minutes.
2. Heat oil in pan and stir fry the pork till the sauce caramelises and the meat is cooked through.
3. Stir in sesame seeds.
4. Serve the char siew with the rice and vegetables. Enjoy!
