Got to know about Butcher Box in Joo Chiat as one of Hubby’s mates would always buy meat from here for their BBQ gatherings. Every now and then, he would mention how tasty the meat is and that we should really go get some. Hence when we were hanging out at East Coast earlier, we decided to just pop by Butcher Box to grab some steaks for dinner.
For those of you who don’t live near Joo Chiat or find it troublesome to come all the way from where you live, you can opt for doorstep delivery. There’s free delivery for orders above S$150.
Decent range of steaks and pre-marinated meats. All nicely portioned and packaged for hassle-free preparation/cooking. Of course, this chiller was not all. There were way more selections of products which I didn’t capture. Premium meats – beef, lamb, poultry & pork. Sustainable wild-caught seafood. Hand-crafted sausages. Cheeses. Ready-to-cook products. Cooking condiments. Even wines and beers.
Picked out two pieces of rib-eye steaks, which were packed into a paper bag like this. As the journey home would be pretty long, I asked if they had any cooler bag or ice packs. One of the guys took out a random ice pack from one of the chillers and handed that to us. That managed to keep the steaks chilled but the paper bag didn’t last long with all that moisture so please bring along your own cooler bag or carrier bag if you want to head down for any purchase.
Hubby wanted to do the cooking so I left him to do so. He simply salted the steaks and seared them on the oiled grill pan. But he forgot to turn on the timer, which led to the steaks being a little overdone, lol. I requested for ‘medium’ but it was more of ‘medium well’.
Despite that, the steaks still turned out delicious!
USDA Prime Linz Heritage Angus Rib Eye Steak
This was really tender even though it was a little overdone. Didn’t need any sauce or condiments to go with it as it was good on its own.
Icon Wagyu MB4/5 Ribeye Steak
Preferred the wagyu as the meat tasted more rich and flavoursome. It had a lovely natural sweetness too.
Final thoughts
All in all, not bad at all. We usually like to buy our meats from Foodie Market Place in Tiong Bahru and now we have one more option in the East. Prices here are pretty competitive too. Shall be back soon to try out the other cuts!
