The husband was at Alexandra Village Food Centre for lunch one weekday when he decided to buy a muffin for dessert after his colleague highly recommended this particular stall. And merely a few days after, we came back on the weekend as he kept telling me how good the muffin was and that I should really try it. Lol. He doesn’t usually eat muffins that much so for him to be paying so many compliments to a muffin, it must be really something.
We came by just after 3pm and the muffins were almost gone even though the stall was supposed to be open till 6.30pm. I pointed to some trays of freshly baked muffins that were kept inside but was told they were meant for customers who called to reserve them so we were told to do the same too next time to avoid disappointment.
However we didn’t leave empty-handed. We happened to be the last customers of the day as we swept off their last four muffins of different flavours. From top left in clockwise order, we had the Banana Chocolate ($1.50), Almond Walnut ($1.50), Blueberry ($2.00) and Streusel Chocolate ($1.50).
As the muffins were all fresh and warm, we couldn’t resist having them on the spot for a little teatime snack. At first glance, I thought each muffin looked pretty hefty in size (weight was quite substantial too) compared to some other muffins I had elsewhere. And at the affordable price range of $1.50 – $2.00 per muffin, it was quite a steal.
I just loved how moist, soft and fluffy the muffins were. And each muffin was filled with a generous serving of ingredients (either nuts or chocolate chips, etc) that gave the texture an adequate density without being too heavy. The buttery flavour was ample but these fellows weren’t greasy to the touch. My favourite would have to be the Streusel Chocolate that came with a crunchy and crumbly topping of flour, butter and sugar – this was utterly delicious. So good that I just couldn’t stop. One is never enough, really!
I was truly impressed with these delightful muffins. They weren’t just tasty, they were very comforting as the chocolate-based muffins were just so chocolatey. Thank you hubby for letting me discover one of the best muffins in Singapore. Can’t wait to return to get the rest of the flavours very soon.
