Feng Food at Northpoint City in Yishun delivers authentic Taiwanese cuisine in a casual, no-frills setting that had me coming back for more. Delectable Sides

Braised Pork Intestines ($7.50)

The Braised Pork Intestines at Feng Food are truly exceptional. As someone who regularly orders intestines when having kway chap or bak kut teh, I’ve developed quite the discerning palate for this delicacy. Feng Food’s version impressed me with how thoroughly the slices had absorbed the braising flavours, despite coming with minimal braising liquid.

What truly sets their intestines apart is the remarkably clean taste—absolutely no unpleasant odours that sometimes plague poorly prepared offal dishes. The texture was perfectly tender, making each bite a delight.

Savoury Braised Beef Shank ($8.30)

Since my husband doesn’t share my enthusiasm for intestines, we also ordered the Braised Beef Shank. This proved to be an excellent choice. The beef wasn’t fall-apart tender but offered just the right resistance for a satisfying chew. My only small critique would be that it appeared slightly dry without accompanying braising liquid.

This beef shank would pair perfectly with any of their soupy noodle options, creating that ideal balance of textures that Taiwanese cuisine is known for.

Main Courses That Satisfy

Sunrise Braised Meat Rice ($11.60)

The “sunrise” in this dish’s name cleverly refers to the sunny-side-up egg crowning the braised meat rice. While you can order this dish without the egg, I’d strongly recommend keeping it—the runny yolk, when mixed with the rice, adds a luxurious creaminess that elevates the entire dish.

Despite the modest portion size, this braised meat rice delivers authentic Taiwanese flavours that transported me straight to a street food stall in Taipei.

Guan Miao Mian with Specially Marinated Pork Chop ($14.30)

After a recent conversation with a friend from Tainan about local specialties, I was intrigued to try Guan Miao Mian. This wasn’t just any noodle—it’s a Tainan specialty with quite a story behind it.

What makes these noodles special is that they’re handmade rather than mass-produced, sun-dried, and contain no artificial colouring or preservatives. This traditional preparation method results in distinctively wavy noodles with what Taiwanese call a “QQ” texture—perfectly chewy with just the right resistance.

The marinated pork chop accompanying the noodles was cooked to perfection—juicy inside with a flavourful exterior. The soup broth deserves special mention for its clean, light flavour profile that complemented rather than overwhelmed the other elements. For those who prefer lighter meals that don’t leave you feeling weighed down, this dish at Feng Food hits all the right notes.

Value and Overall Experience

While portion sizes at Feng Food aren’t enormous, they’re fairly priced considering all costs are nett—no additional GST or service charge surprised us at checkout.

Though perhaps not matching the absolute pinnacle of what you’d find in Taiwan itself, Feng Food comes remarkably close for satisfying Taiwanese cravings without leaving Singapore. What particularly impressed me was the homestyle quality of the food—everything tasted carefully prepared without excessive seasoning that sometimes plagues restaurant versions of home-cooked classics.

Final Thoughts on Feng Food

Feng Food has certainly earned a spot among my favourite Taiwanese eateries in Singapore. The understated authenticity, reasonable pricing, and focus on quality ingredients rather than flashy presentation make it a standout in the mall dining scene. Whether you’re craving braised meat rice, handmade noodles, or traditional Taiwanese sides, this humble eatery delivers flavours that honour their culinary heritage.

Will I return to Feng Food? Absolutely. For anyone seeking authentic Taiwanese comfort food with no pretensions, just honest flavours, Feng Food should be your next destination in the north of Singapore.
