Arnold’s Fried Chicken is probably one of the oldest chicken places around in Singapore. Opened for more than 26 years, I had only just came across it (during one of my earlier shopping stints at City Plaza). I didn’t expect too much from a simple fast food eatery like this. There weren’t much advertising or publicity and I wasn’t sure too if I had made the right choice to have lunch there.
A no-frills tiny restaurant situated on the 2nd level of City Plaza that could be easily missed because the exterior really wasn’t fanciful enough to catch anybody’s attention.
We ordered the Whole Spring Chicken Set ($10.60) that came with two sides of coleslaw and fries. The platter was served piping hot. As I bit into the steaming chicken meat, I was pleasantly surprised at how tender, juicy and succulent the meat was. The crispy skin with a very light platter was nicely spiced & marinated and definitely tasted different from the fried chicken of other fast food outlets that are usually full of flour. Though fried, it wasn’t too oily and we didn’t get too sickly from eating the whole chicken. I am never fond of breast meat but the breast meat was flavourful enough to have me gulp down a few pieces without complain. The fries were also good. Crispy on the outside, soft in the inside. It was a very worthwhile meal which we thoroughly enjoyed. I must say this is one of the best fried chickens I have had in Singapore!
