A Weekend Staycation at Quincy Hotel

The hunt for the best boutique hotel experience is up! As such, I gave the hubby a weekend staycation treat at the Quincy Hotel after I discovered its all-inclusive package that covered the following:

  • Daily buffet breakfast, set lunch & dinner
  • Unlimited broadband internet access
  • Local telephone calls
  • Complimentary cocktails from 6pm to 8pm nightly
  • Complimentary minibar, replenished daily
  • Complimentary bottle of red wine
  • Late check-out till 3pm
  • Complimentary carparking

Quincy Hotel is well located in town, just a 5-10 minutes walk from Paragon so it’s pretty easy to get around from the hotel.

Checking in was a breeze. Barely took minutes. The front desk gave us a complimentary bottle of red wine and we were off to our room. There wasn’t any porter to help with luggage and since we only had a small trolley bag, it didn’t really matter anyway. We were quite impressed with the studio room and in fact was beyond my initial expectations. It wasn’t a very big room (but perfect size for us) and yet it had a comfy king-sized bed with micro fibre and feather pillows. The big 42″ LCD TV was perfect for watching movies as we had saved films in our laptop which we could plug into the TV to watch. The iPod dock was great for me to play music on my iPhone. The minibar which was replenished on a daily basis had different types of beverages from fizzy drinks to beer to packet drinks to water. Very thoughtful indeed. Two small bags of chips were also found at the coffee/tea station. Simply perfect.
The bathroom had a small tub and a shower area next to it. It wasn’t very spacious but it was very clean and well-maintained. Rain shower was also available. Molton Brown’s bath amenities were provided – I was thrilled! Slippers and robes came in handy too. You could also find an umbrella, iron and torch light in the wardrobe.

The lobby area was rather small and the hotel restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner were served was just next to it on the first level. iMac stations were placed in the lobby for guests to surf the internet. I was quite fascinated with the glass-enclosed pool on the 12th floor where you could get a good view of the surroundings and probably residents in the nearby apartments could get a good view of you too, haha. A gym was also available for hotel guests. Apparently, there were sauna and steam room facilities too but we missed that.

All meals were inclusive as part of the weekend package we paid and I was quite impressed with the variety of food they served on an ala-carte basis. For the first night dinner, the hubby had sambal seafood with rice. I had a sirloin steak with potato wedges and blanched veggies. Both were surprisingly good! The potato wedges were very well fried and were so addictive! Minestrone soup, bread, soft drinks and juices were also free-flow. If you were there between 6pm to 8pm, you could also order complimentary cocktails, wines or beers.
For dessert, we had tiramisu which was quite authentic as we could taste a good dose of liqueur in it. The ice cream wasn’t great though. Too milky and too sweet for me.

Next day’s lunch and dinner consisted of pan-fried salmon with wedges, ravioli with bacon in olive oil, nasi goreng, club sandwich and apple strudel. Except for the strudel dessert, I thought the main courses tasted fairly decent. Not overly fantastic but still above average compared to some other hotels.I didn’t take any photos during breakfast though as the items were quite standard like toast, cereals, sausages, bacon, scrambled egg, hash browns, nasi goreng, chicken porridge, etc. Breakfast wasn’t great and in fact, I hardly ate so no further comments on that.Overall, it had been a very pleasant stay. We received impeccable service from the hotel staff who were always polite and attentive. Our room was clean and well maintained and really gave us a cosy ‘just like home’ feel. Would definitely be back again (if there is any special promotional rate as $288++ is still considered pricey) if I need a lazy weekend to just stay in to watch movies and to have my three meals even without stepping out of the building.
