Enjoying restaurant quality food without breaking the bank is indeed a dream come true. Now we can all indulge in good meals at what I call an upscale food court or coffeeshop like the new Essen that’s located at The Pinnacle @ Duxton. Very similar concept to Salut Coffeeshop @ 119 Bukit Merah Lane 1, Essen is an alternative hipster eating place and watering hole to go to when in town. It houses several tenants that serve up a variety of different cuisines from Italian and Thai to French, Fusion, Seafood and more.
I had been to Essen twice so far but for this post, I shall feature what I had on my first visit – the BEST CHICKEN WINGS IN SINGAPORE. Yep, you heard me right. 🙂
The same Two Wings at Salut Coffeeshop has their second outlet at Essen! I seldom make bold statements like this unless the food really blows my mind, lol. So you can imagine what an awesome time I had sinking my teeth into these amazingly delicious wings. The first time I had Two Wings was when the husband packed the wings home for me for supper a while back and I just couldn’t stop thinking about the wings and the very shiok chilli sauce. So, off we went to Essen’s Two Wings for a chicky ‘comfort food’ feast.
And here was our very enticing feast that I wouldn’t mind having again this very moment as I’m typing this post, lol. Mouthwatering!
The Cheese Fries (S$4.50) came drenched in mayo and cheese sauce with a sprinkle of ground paprika and chopped spring onions on top. These shoestring fries were obviously out of a frozen bag which we didn’t mind but it was a shame that they were over-fried so they tasted hard (though crispy) and very oily too. I got quite sickly of this after a few mouthfuls.
The 2 Parts Chicken Set Meal (S$9.00) came with 2 pieces of fried chicken and 2 sides of your choice. We picked the Chilled Mashed Potato Salad and Sweet Corn. The chicken parts were crispy and crunchy on the outside, moist, tender and succulent on the inside. Best thing was, no oil oozed out when I sank my teeth into the chicken. The sweet corn was naturally sweet and tasty but the mashed potato salad could do with just a bit more seasoning.
It wouldn’t feel right not to order any wings at all so we had 6 pieces Chicken Wings (S$12.50) to share. Each chicken wing had a crispy, light batter on the outside that was well seasoned and flavoursome even on its own without any sauce. The meat inside was just moist and juicy. Any good chicken wing should be of this calibre – cooked to perfection! Don’t forget to go for their homemade chilli sauce too that reminded me of chicken rice chilli with a spicy kick. In heaven!
What’s better than washing down those sinfully rich food with some refreshing home-made Ice Lemon Tea (S$1.50 per glass)? Perfect balance of sweet and sour. Loved it!
Will I come back again? Of course! It goes without saying 🙂 Two Wings is the place to go whenever I have a chicken wing craving 😉 They may not be the cheapest wings around but they are absolutely worthy of their price tag. It’s just hard to stop at one. Fried chicken wing lovers, don’t say I bo jio 🙂
